Q&As - Peerfunder Skip to main content

We are providing information on how the process works.

For detailed financial advice, you should contact an independent financial advisor.

What happens when my investment case successfully settles or wins at trial?

Although it varies for each case, in general under the terms of the litigation funding, Peerfunder and its investors will receive their original investment and return first.

Then other liabilities of the claimant will be paid, which includes legal fees. Finally, the claimant will be entitled to retain the remainder.

What happens if my investment case loses?

Unfortunately, if the case loses, investors are likely to lose the majority, if not all of their investment.

We mitigate this risk by bundling cases together as a portfolio, so one loss will not affect the other cases.

We also pre-screen cases by Peerfunder experts, to ensure we are investing in cases we believe have a great chance of success.

Is Peerfunder involved in the pursuit of the legal claim directly?

When we fund a case, we continue to monitor its progress closely – including the use of funds provided.

We will never interfere in the way the case is litigated by the claimant and their counsel.

Can I withdraw my investment?

It may be possible to sell your investment through a Secondary Market in the future if there is an interested party. However, not all cases will be eligible for listing on a Secondary Market. It may be difficult to sell your investment quickly, or at all.

Usually, you will only be able to access a return of your capital after the case has been resolved.

You should expect your funds to remain invested until the end of the investment term.

Who is eligible to invest with Peerfunder?

Peerfunder investment opportunities are open only to the following categories of investors:

  • Certified high-net-worth individuals
  • Self-certified sophisticated investors

FCA regulations state the definition of a self-certified sophisticated investor as someone who has made more than one investment in an unlisted company in the last two years.

What kind of cases are typically funded?

Peerfunder look to fund cases with low risk and a high likelihood of settling out

of court.

They typically include:

  • Pension Mis-selling
  • Energy contracts
  • Personal car financing plans
  • Housing disrepair
