Peerfunder - Peerfunder Skip to main content

Welcome

We are Peerfunder, a fully transparent route to invest in legal funding.

A fully transparent route to invest in legal funding within the UK judicial system.

A new and high-demand opportunity

Our Investment Opportunities

Our investment opportunities are intended for High Net Worth, and Sophisticated Investors only.

The financing of legal cases can be provided by funders, in return for a defined share of the proceeds (any costs, and damages).

This offers investors like you the opportunity to diversify your portfolio, by participating in a market that is not correlated with fluctuations in equities, bonds, property or commodities.

A growing market

The overall UK market for legal services is around £30bn

Litigation funding helps supply required capital.

Viable claims can be impeded in their progress, due to a lack of funding available to progress them through the judicial system.

A growing market for funding

Historically, legal funding from a third party, who had no active involvement in a dispute, was illegal.

In theb1990s, legislation removed Maintenance and Champerty as crimes and torts, the practise of funding cases for others. Parliament also enacted laws to assist litigants who were unable to access legal aid.

Since the law changed, funding arrangements are becoming an accepted and valued means of financing litigation. Investing in litigation claims is a growing market, partly due to the rising costs of bringing legal action, and the need to offload such costs.

Outside the UK, litigation funding is a well-established market, used in other

jurisdictions such as Australia, the USA and Canada.

How does it work

How does it work?

Peerfunder have appointed a panel of experienced solicitors, who will assess applicants who wish to expand their operations through financing.

The type of claims being pursued would typically be pension mis-selling, energy contracts, personal car financing plans and housing disrepair cases.

The cases on offer will be vetted by Peerfunder experts, who will aim for an estimated 80% success rate amongst the cases.

They will look for cases with a strong chance of settlement, rather than litigation. Peerfunder assess all cases, then bundle together to minimise risk of losses.

You, the investor, pay investment money directly to Bluewater, who are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Bluewater meets all regulatory and compliance requirements, to ensure the highest levels of integrity and confidence. This money is then held in escrow.

Investors will typically receive a single payment when the case has been settled, and all expenses have been paid. Therefore, investors should typically expect no dividends while the case is ongoing.

When we fund a case, we continue to monitor its progress closely – including the use of funds provided. We will never interfere in the way the case is litigated by the claimant and their counsel.
